Y/Project, founded in 2010, is a label built on curiosity, experiment and community. Launched as a collaborative effort between designer Yohan Serfaty and businessman Gilles Elalouf, the label would fall under direction of Glen Martens following Serfaty’s sudden death in 2013. In the wake of such tragedy, Martens would begin to develop the brand’s defining ethos, putting emphasis on innovation opposed to exterior aesthetics. Distorting our base perceptions of function and appearance, Y/Project refuses to shy from outlandish design, encouraging collaborative thinking while refuting Parisian norms. The brand, summed effortlessly by Martens himself, “is not about always making the most beautiful garment. It’s really about pushing things and becoming more radical.”
