- In the 90s, fashion was perceived for some as too “classy”, too “luxurious” and too “enclosed” in its own traditional codes. Fortunately, a new generation of Japanese designers came to impose their special vision with all their cultural references and a new punk rock aesthetics, without knowing that they would revolutionize their era. Jun Takahashi was the designer on whom to bet and Rei Kawakubo who created Comme des Garçons understood this and became her mentor during the 90´s.
By continuing to work on his own style, Undercover became one of Japan’s most influential fashion brands of all time.
- 2006, what a year for fashion with all influential collections made at that moment. But one of the most important to remember is the Undercover Spring/Summer 2006 « T », at least for Jun’s career. Along with his close friend and designer behind Hysteric Glamour, Nobuhiko Kitamura, they worked together on creating five fictional german bands called for the collection « Chuuut! », « The SSSSS », « Klaus », « The Crouh », and « Theo Burp ». The Japanese duo was inspired by German Krautrock progressive rock groups of the early 50’s to 70’s and punk mentality at the time. Featuring several graphics such as screaming faces, intriguing graphics or rock-bands name printed on leather jacket, skirt, reconstructed tees and trousers seen during the runway. This collection is a representation of inspirations took from punk and rock scenes of the 70´s and the rebellious spirit of Jun’s work, an achievement of the DNA of his work and all his cultural references he had developed before.
- These denim feature 2 cargo pockets, famous Patti Smith lightning bolt embroidered on the front left knee, « Klaus » printed writing and « Wahnfrieden » printed face on the back which seems a reference to an artist of the german band Amon Düül II, a special print of children distorted faces all-over the front left knee, all this done with accents of distressing and fading all over the jeans with acid wash all over the denim. This iteration is a special version only released at Dover Street Market.
